The smart way for Minnesotans to discover, support and engage with charities.
Happy New Year and yet another thank you to the wonderful people of Minnesota for donating over $1M to their favorite nonprofits in December on GiveMN! I am enthused by the comments from donors and nonprofits about how easy the site is to use and how excited you are to use it.
I am thrilled to announce that Jeff Achen has started as the Interactive Media Strategist for GiveMN. Jeff is responsible for managing day-to-day operations of the GiveMN site and leading online communications.
Most recently, Jeff was the online editor and multimedia/social media editor of Thisweeklive.com where he oversaw and implemented many social media practices and programs for the last two years. While in this role, Jeff earned several awards for his newspaper's website and for use of video. Jeff also owns and operates his own videography and photography business. To maximize operational efficiency, we are excited to “share” Jeff with the Minnesota Community Foundation and The Saint Paul Foundation.
As is the tradition in early January, the GiveMN team is committing to New Year’s resolutions for 2010... but unlike losing 20 pounds, these are resolutions we really will keep!
GiveMN will continue to be the most efficient way for Minnesota nonprofits to fundraise online.
I have talked to many nonprofits and donors who have asked how long transaction fees will be free on GiveMN. Thanks to our funders, the 4.75% transaction fees are currently being paid so that 100% of a donor’s gift goes to the nonprofit. While I would love to say that we can continue to cover transaction fees forever, the reality is that we can’t sustain this model. What does this mean? At some point in 2010, we will likely pass on a portion of the transaction fees to the nonprofit organization. To reiterate, our mission is to be the best way for Minnesota nonprofits to fundraise online which means that we are committed to keeping the transaction fees as low as possible. We will continue to search out the best possible processing partners and technology to ensure GiveMN is a valuable support to Minnesota nonprofits.
We will share ideas, opinions and best practices about online fundraising.
We are partnering with MAP for Nonprofits and Lori Jacobwith, fundraising consultant, to develop an advanced webinar that will share tips on how to build GiveMN and online fundraising into your overall development plan. Look for more information in February on the website. Also, we would love to hear from you - how are you using online fundraising, what is working, what isn’t? Send your thoughts and ideas to email@example.com.
We will find new donors for you in 2010!
We are working on the 2010 promotions calendar and are committed to continuing an annual Give to the Max Day event in November as well as several other exciting promotions throughout the year to drive traffic to GiveMN. We want to find new donors for you!
